HIROSE Electric Co. Ltd, a world-class manufacturer in connectors has introduced the GT50 series, a small wire-to-board connector with 1mm pitch and 5.97mm height which features exceptional heat and vibration resistance.
Originally designed for automotive applications including EVs where new features such as autonomous driving have driven the demand for compact wire-to-board connectors for reliable internal connections. These applications typically have limited mounting space available, and they have a particular demand for smaller and lighter connectors. At the same time, the connectors need to provide high resistance to heat generated from the high mounting density of electrical components and have high reliability to withstand vibration during driving. Many of the attributes which make the GT50 series popular in automotive applications are just as applicable in industrial applications where autonomous robots and material handling equipment also feature many sensors to ensure safety, installed in limited space and must have high reliability and resistance to vibration.
Vibration and Heat Resistant Automotive Quality Contact Design
The position of the cable crimp area on the GT50 connector is optimized, the stabilizer prevents the contacts from moving inside the housing, ensuring strong vibration resistance even in harsh environments. Compared to a similar sized connector used in consumer appliances, GT50 reduces wear on the contacts. In addition, the heat resistant material of the crimp contact ensures 125°C heat resistance. The GT50 connectors are tested for vibration resistance under conditions, Frequency: 5 ‑ 600Hz, (Constant Acceleration: 5 to 14.9g: 16.5mm(p-p). Constant Acceleration of 14.9 to 600Hz: 73.0m/s2) for 8h in 3 directions. After this testing there will be no electrical discontinuity of 1 µ s or more and contact resistance: 50m Ohm Max.
The GT50 series is designed for use with small cable sizes of 0.08sq, this is considerably lighter than the traditional 0.3sq size cables often used for internal connection in automotive applications which this connector was originally designed for, this offers an advantage in weight and size whilst not compromising on performance.

The GT50 series is available now in 2 and 16 positions, 4, 6, 8 and 12 position connectors are also under development. The connectors are rated at 2A current for 2 position and 1.5A for the 16 position connector, rated voltage is 60V AC/DC and operating temperature range is -40 to +125°C.
The GT50 series is suitable for a wide range of harsh environment applications including automotive, industrial, automation, robotics, emobility, drones and electric power tools.
