Analog Devices ADM7154 Low Noise RF Linear Regulator has won the Power System Product of the Year at the 2015 Elecktra awards

Analog Devices ADM7154 Low Noise RF Linear Regulator has won the Power System Product of the Year at the 2015 Elektra awards.

The 13th annual Elektra Awards were held on Tuesday 24 November at the Lancaster London, and were attended by over 400 guests from the eletronics industry.

Analog Devices has expanded its award winning ADM7150/51 family of ultra-low-noise LDO (low-dropout) regulators for RF (radio frequency) signal devices with the introduction of the ADM7154 and ADM7155 family of devices.

The original ADM7150/51 operate from 4.5 V to 16 V, provide up to 800-mA of output current and support output voltages from 1.5 to 5.0 V. The LDOs achieve an output-NSD (noise spectral density) of 1.4 nV/rtHz from 10 kHz to 1 MHz, which significantly reduces VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator) phase noise in point-to-point microwave radios, satellite communications, defense electronics and other wideband applications. Additionally, a user adjustable CBYP can significantly reduce low frequency 1/f noise (8 nV/rtHz at 100 Hz) for precision analog front-end measurement systems.

In addition to ultra-low noise, the ADM7150/51 achieve line and load transient responses of 0.01%/V and 0.4%/A respectively with a 10 µF ceramic output capacitor. The devices feature high PSRR (power-supply rejection ratio) performance of greater than 90 dB from 1 kHz to 100 kHz, and greater than 60 dB at 1 MHz. This effectively filters DC-DC switching regulator ripple, saving space by minimizing the size of discrete filtering components normally needed.

The new ADM7154/55 family scheduled for release at the end of October 2014 are Ultralow Noise, High PSRR, RF Linear Regulators operate from 2.3 V to 5.5 V and provide up to 600 mA of output current. Using an advanced proprietary architecture, they provide high power supply rejection and ultralow noise, achieving excellent line and load transient response with only a 10 µF ceramic output capacitor.

The ADM7154/55 regulators have typical output noise of 0.9 µV rms from 100 Hz to 100 kHz for fixed output voltage options and 1.5 nV/rtHz for noise spectral density from 10 kHz to 1 MHz. The ADM7154/55 devices are available in an 8-lead, 3 mm X 3 mm LFCSP and 8 lead SOIC packages, making them not only a very compact solution, but also providing excellent thermal performance for applications requiring up to 600 mA of output current in a small, low profile footprint.

The ADM7154 is available in 16 standard output voltages, 1.2 V, 1.3 V, 1.5 V, 1.6 V, 1.8 V, 2.0 V, 2.2 V, 2.5 V, 2.6 V, 2.7 V, 2.8 V, 2.9 V, 3.0 V, 3.1 V, 3.2 V and 3.3 V. The ADM7155 is available in four models that optimize power dissipation and PSRR performance as a function of input and output voltage, 1.2V to 1.8V, 1.2V to 2.3V, 1.2V to 2.9V and 1.2V to 3.4V.
