STMicroelectronics has announced that its new STM32F334 microcontrollers based on the ARM® Cortex®-M4 core are in full production delivering outstanding performance and system-on-chip integration for value-conscious advanced applications.
The market-first Cortex-M4 devices in volume production includes the new STM32F334 product line which is specifically designed to address digital power conversion applications, such as D-SMPS, lighting, welding, inverters for solar systems and wireless chargers.
With 16KBytes to 64KBytes on-chip Flash and 10KByte to 16KByte of SRAM, the STM32F334 offers an easy step into ARM Cortex -M4-core-based MCU development.
STM32F334 devices combine the 72MHz ARM Cortex-M4 core featuring DSP instruction set and FPU with high-performance analog peripherals to bring advanced integration to entry-level mixed-signal control applications.
The STM32F334 microcontrollers feature peripherals to address digital power conversion applications such as a high-resolution timer which is self-compensated versus power supply and temperature drift, ultra-fast comparator and 12-bit ADC 5Msps (0.2µs) and an operational amplifier with 5 built-in gain settings and 1% accuracy. The 5Msps 12-bit ADC, the fastest ADC in any ARM Cortex-based MCU, offers ultra-fast reaction time for control-sensitive applications such as digital power, sonar, motor control, lighting, or wireless chargers.
The STM32F334 has an integrated high resolution timer consisting of a bank of 6 timers with 10 PWM outputs (can be coupled by pairs), 10 external events inputs (current limitation, zero voltage / zero current detection…) and 5 fault inputs. The timer has a 217ps resolution available for all operating modes, variable duty cycle, variable frequency and transition mode.
A number of features are available on the STM32F334 which also allow reduction of load on the CPU including one DMA channel per timer, built-in burst mode controller and push-pull or resonant topology modes. Numerous interconnects between timers are possible such as reset/start adjacent timers and set/reset/toggle other outputs.
The new mbed-compatible STM32F334 Nucleo board, (NUCLEO-F334R8) , joins the enablement ecosystem to help engineers try out new ideas and quickly create prototypes.
