Taicom’s extensive range of Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC)

The Taicom range of Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC) are spread across several series including the traditional 1.27mm ribbon cable connectors and the more modular KK style suitable for discrete wires.

The traditional connector series is specifically designed for the industry standard 1.27mm pitch of ribbon cable. This series consists of PCB mounting latched headers and box headers, both available in straight and right angle, together with cable mounting sockets, transition headers and DIL plugs which house the IDC terminations.

This range of connectors enables the user to terminate between 9 and 64 wires in one easy action. The connectors are all manufactured in a way that allows the ribbon cable to be placed in the connector and pressed shut terminating all of the wires at the same time making this a very versatile and dense connection system.

The KK style is available in two pitches, 2.54mm (TIB series) and 3.96mm (TIC series). This style of connector offers the advantage of faster assembly times when terminating discrete wires.

TIB and TIC connectors are very similar to the established TKB and TKC crimp terminal series. However, instead of having to strip and crimp the individual wires and then fitting the crimped assemblies into the housing, the TIB/TIC series have IDC contacts pre-fitted into the housing. This enables the user to fit the wire directly into the connector and in one crimp action the wire is inserted into the contacts and the process is completed. When all the wires are inserted a dust cover can be fitted if required. This dramatically reduces the time spent assembling the wires and crimps and then fitting them into the housing.

TIB/TIC series connectors have a maximum current rating of 3A and 7A respectively and both pitches are rated at 250Vac and feature flame retardant housings to UL94V-0. They are end to end stackable and are fully compatible with the existing TKB & TKC wafers and TPH pin headers. Additionally the new connectors also feature locking ramps to prevent accidental disconnection during use (this feature is only applicable when connectors are used with the corresponding friction lock wafers).

The 2.54mm pitch will accept a wire size of 24 AWG and is available in 2 to 25 ways. The 3.96mm version will accept a wire size of 22 AWG and is available in 2 to 20 ways. Both series are offered with an optional dust cover, which can be fitted to protect the IDC contacts once the wires have been fitted.

Taicom also offers male and female D sub-miniature and IEEE-488 connectors fitted with IDC contacts. These connectors are all flame retardant to UL94V-0 and have a current capability of 1A.
