Versatile FFC/FPC connectors from HIROSE offer 0.5mm pitch with low profile 1.0mm height, samples available from Anglia

HIROSE, a world-class manufacturer in connectors has developed the FH34SRJ series of FPC/FFC connectors. The FH34SRJ series offers designers great flexibility, the connectors can accept FPC/FFC in both top and bottom contact arrangement whilst boasting a short 3.2mm mounting depth and 0.5mm pitch helping to save valuable board space.

The FH34SRJ has a lightweight structure, weighing in at just 0.098g, however it does not compromise reliability in the quest for lightness and incorporates a unique contact structure design which provides one of the highest FPC/FFC retention forces available in the market, horizontal direction pull-force for 6 contact version is 3.0N for top contact and 6.0N for bottom contact.
The design incorporates a retention tab which holds the actuator from above to ensure it is securely held during rotation, furthermore the contacts have a unique curved shape that also supports the actuator axle. The actuator lock is also designed to be production friendly and the connectors are delivered with the actuator in the open position so only a two-step operation is needed, inserting of the FPC/FFC followed by closing the actuator.

Tapers on all 4 inner walls of the housing opening ensure smooth FPC/FFC insertion whilst correct actuator locking is confirmed with a firm tactile lock.

Key design features

The FH34SRJ has a fully enclosed moulded design and the contacts are not exposed on the bottom side of the connector thus enabling tracks to be routed under the connector increasing board layout possibilities. The connectors are recommended for use with FPC/FFC thickness is 0.3mm ±0.03mm and are available in popular ways from 4 to 50 contacts with a vacuum pick area and supplied on tape and reel packaging making them compatible with automatic assembly equipment.

The FH34SRJ connector housings are moulded from high temperature LCP and PA material which is flame retardant to UL94V-0, contacts are phosphor bronze material with gold plating over nickel barrier. The connectors are rated for operation at 0.5A max. and 50 Vrms, operating temperature range is -55°C to +105°C.
