Introducing the STSPIN32F0B 3-phase BLDC controller with triple half-bridge gate driver from STMicroelectronics

The STSPIN32F0B from STMicroelectronics is a System-In-Package providing an integrated solution suitable for driving three-phase brushless motors using different driving modes.

The device embeds a triple half-bridge gate driver able to drive power MOSFETs with a current capability of 600 mA (sink and source). The high- and low-side switches of same half-bridge are prevented being simultaneously driven high thanks to an integrated interlocking function. The STSPIN32F0B also features an integrated internal DC/DC buck converter which provides the 3.3 V voltage suitable to supply both the MCU and external components whilst an internal LDO linear regulator also provides the supply voltage required for gate drivers.

The STSPIN32F0B has an integrated operational amplifier available for the signal conditioning, e.g. the current sensing across the shunt resistor and a comparator with a programmable threshold is also included to perform the overcurrent protection.

 

The STSPIN32F0B System-In-Package also integrates a MCU (STM32F031C6 with extended temperature range, suffix 7 version) which performs field oriented control, 6-step sensor-less control and other advanced driving algorithms. The device has the write-protection and read-protection feature for the embedded Flash memory to protect against unwanted writing and/or reading. It is possible to download the firmware on-the-field through the serial interface thanks to the embedded bootloader.

The STSPIN32F0B device also features overtemperature and undervoltage lockout protections and can be put in the standby mode to reduce the power consumption. The device provides 20 general-purpose I/O ports (GPIO) with 5 V tolerant capability, one 12-bit analog-to-digital converter with up to 9 channels performing conversions in a single-shot or scan modes, 5 synchronizable general-purpose timers and supports an easy to use debugging serial interface (SWD). Housed in a compact VFQFPN48 package measuring just 7x7x1mm the device has an extended operating temperature range of -40 to +125 °C.

STMicroelectronics also have a six-step brushless motor driver evaluation board based on the STSPIN32F0B BLDC controller. The STEVAL-SPIN3204 three-phase brushless DC motor driver evaluation board is designed to help engineers test and develop motor control designs for a wide range of applications, the flexible evaluation platform even allows toggling between external sensor and sensorless position feedback data methods.

 

 

The STSPIN32F0B System-In-Package 3-phase BLDC motor controller is suitable for a range of motor control applications including Industrial automation equipment, power tools, home appliances, fans and pumps.
