Bourns Announces New High Power Current Sense Resistor Families, samples available from Anglia

Bourns has recently expanded its range of current sense resistor families, the Model CSS Series. This is Bourns' range of high powered current sense resistors, manufactured using a metal element.

Current sense resistors are growing in popularity due to their high measurement accuracy and relatively low cost compared to other technologies. These resistors detect and convert current to an easily measured voltage which is proportional to the current through the device. Typical applications include battery management systems, power modules, frequency converters and industrial motor drive controls.

The Bourns® Model CSS Series comes in both 2-terminal and 4-terminal options, the resistors are constructed using a metal alloy current sensing element which allows for low thermal EMF and low TCRs of 50 PPM/°C in the 20°C to 60°C temperature range.

The popular 2-terminal models are available in three different footprint sizes, 2512 (6.35 x 3.05mm), 3920 (10.04 x 5.2mm) and 5930 (15.0x7.75mm). The CSS 2-terminal models have resistance values ranging from 0.2mΩ to 5.0mΩ with power ratings up to 15 W at 70°C depending on the size.

The 4-terminal models have two dedicated sense terminals which allow for high precision 4-wire kelvin resistance measurements. The CSS 4-terminal models are available in 4026 (10.06 x 6.60mm) size and have resistance values ranging from 0.2mΩ to 3.0mΩ with power ratings up to 5W.

The CSS series is AEC-Q200 qualified and has an operating temperature range of -55°C to +170°C.

Features

  • EB welded metal strip
