New FH63 Series FFC/FPC/Shield FFC Connector from Hirose features 0.5mm Pitch with Single Action Lock, samples available from Anglia

Hirose has introduced the FH63 series range of Flat Flexible Circuit / Flat Printed Circuit (FFC/FPC) connectors to allow automated insertion of a FFC/FPC, ideal for industrial and automotive applications.

The connector series is 105°C heat resistant and meets severe automotive requirements, the connectors support the signal transmission requirements of Embedded Display Port 1.3, HDMI 1.4a, USB 3.0, and V-by-One HS.

The FH63 series features a unique single action lock which allows a FFC/FPC to be inserted into the connector without opening the lock lever. This can be done with one hand or by automated machinery to save valuable assembly time and reduce mating failure.

The FH63 series has a compact pitch of 0.5mm and accepts 0.5mm pitch FFC/FPC cable with a thickness of 0.33mm. Rated current is 5A (amps), voltage rating is 50V AC/DC and operating temperature range is -55°C to +85°C.

The connectors have two-point independent spring beam contacts which help to reduce contact failure caused by contamination. The spring allows the contacts to move and wipe dust from the contact path, if any dust remains the second contact point will make the connection. In addition, the spring structure together with wide tapers allows easier insertion of the FFC/FPC.

Two point contact design to prevent contamination

High retention FFC/FPC force is achieved by the robust locking mechanism which firmly retains the tabbed FFC/FPC into position to secure mating.

Secure FPC/FFC locking feature prevents accidental disconnection of cable.

The correct placement of the FFC/FPC can also be visually inspected through small openings in the top surface of the connector.

Opening on top of connector allows easy inspection to ensure FFC/FPC engaged correctly.

Solder wicking is prevented by a special nickel barrier that is applied to the contacts and Flux build up is also prevented by the connector design having wide spaces in the mounting area.

The FH63 series can accept a FFC, FPC or shield FFC for EMI prevention allowing flexible design options.

Key Features

  • Number of contacts: 30 (other ways under development)
  • Pitch: 0.5mm
  • Current rating: 0.5A
  • Voltage rating: AC/DC 50V
  • Single action lock
  • RoHS compliant
  • Halogen Free

The FH63 series of FFC/FPC connectors are suited to a wide range of applications including navigation systems, miniature surveillance cameras, infotainment devices, handheld gaming or computing systems, industrial control equipment, medical devices and other portable equipment.
