New EZ-Removable Jumper Links from Harwin cut the cost of LED Array Production

Easy-to-use Links cut the cost of LED array assembly, simplify rework and cut production time.

Harwin have developed an easy means of connecting LED arrays together, simply and effectively removing any need for post-assembly soldering operations, and facilitating rework both in the factory and in the field.

Part of the EZ-BoardWare range, the new Removable Link system comprises Surface Mount clips and removable linking bars. The clips are provided in tape and reel packaging for automated placement, 10K per reel. Bars are bulk-packed in 5K bags for the electrical connection between the clips. The complete system provides secure retention for the linking bars, whilst allowing them to be speedily removed and replaced if a failed LED array or panel requires replacement. The clips are available in both Vertical and Horizontal orientations.

These products allow users to further automate the processes involved in manufacturing and assembling multiple LED arrays, eliminating manual soldering and/or the use of more costly conventional connectors. The novel design allows for the removal of an individual array if it fails, without disturbing adjacent PCBs, facilitating easy and quick serviceability and repair.

EZ-Removable Links occupy minimal board space. They can carry up to 1.5A, making them ideal as a cost-effective PCB connection system.

Comments Graham Cunningham, Product Manager: "The alternative to our new EZ-Removable Jumper Links is either soldering a bar or wire connection, which is time-consuming and risks damaging the board; or the use of a plug-and-socket connector, which is expensive and makes the replacement of any one module within a complex array almost impossible. EZ-Removable Jumper Links enable fast connection to all four sides of an LED array, and can even accommodate PCB misalignment."
