Bourns release a new portfolio of Mini-Breakers (Miniature Thermal Cutoff Devices)
Following Bourns' acquisition of Komatsulite Mfg. Co., Ltd. in late 2014, Bourns has announced the release of a broad range of Komatsulite™ Mini-Breaker overtemperature and overcurrent protectors.
Headquartered in Osaka, Japan, Komatsulite is a leader in the field of safety devices for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Komatsulite's innovative mini-breakers (miniature thermal cutoff devices) enable long battery life, high current draw and fast recharge, while providing an effective mechanism to protect against overtemperature and overcurrent conditions.
The mini-breakers utilize a PTC thermistor, bimetallic disc and switching contact structure to provide fast overtemperature and overcurrent protection.
Product Structure
The Komatsulite™ mini-breakers are suitable for battery cell protection in applications such as handheld communication equipment, ruggedized tablet and notebook PC's, portable environmental monitoring equipment and other portable battery powered devices.
There are 5 ranges of mini-breakers available, HC, LC, KCA, NR-A and NR-C series.
The Model HC and LC Series feature:
- Overtemperature and overcurrent protection for lithium polymer and prismatic cells
- Controls abnormal, excessive current virtually instantaneously
- Range of temperature options from 72°C to 90°C
- RoHS compliant
The Model KCA Series A-Type features:
- High current type, 25A contact rating
- Optimal corrosion resistant properties
- Smaller body size: L 5.4 x W 3.2 x H 0.89 mm
And to complete the portfolio, the Model NR-A and NR-C Series feature:
- Smallest body size measuring L 4.8 x W 2.8 x H 0.89 mm
- NR-A Series - high current type, 25A contact rating
- NR-C Series - low current type, 12A contact rating
This new mini-breaker portfolio complements Bourns' broad offering of PTC resettable fuses and TBU® High-Speed Protectors for overcurrent protection, as well as their wide range of overvoltage protectors such as TVS Diodes, TISP® Thyristors, Multilayer Varistors and Gas Discharge Tubes.
