Hirose introduce the FH55 series, 0.5mm pitch, high speed transmission, FPC connector

Hirose have introduced the new FH55 series to meet with the demand for connectors with higher transmission speed. The connector range can handle up to 5+ Gbps high speed transmission and fully supports USB 3.0, PCI Express Gen.2, Serial ATA Gen.3 and HDMI 1.4a.

The high speed transmission capability is achieved by the innovatively designed impedance controlled contacts. The signal contact shape has a flat structure instead of the conventional tuning fork shape. This provides a straight signal path and stops any signal reflection. The ground contacts are strategically placed between the differential pair signal contacts which reduces crosstalk.

Insertion of the FPC into the actuator is made easier with a wide opening of 115 degrees. A firm and clear tactile click from the actuator confirms that correct locking of the FPC into the connector has been completed. Side catches are present in the internal structure of the connector to locate and hold a tabbed FPC in place which allows a temporary holding facility for the FPC to permit accurate guided positioning. Furthermore this increases the retention force of the FPC to the connector providing an overall stable and reliable connection.

Solder wicking is prevented by the special nickel barrier that is applied to the contacts. A special flux path and solder pot is present on the bottom face of the connector to absorb excess flux and solder.

Key Features

  • Contact positions: 40
  • Pitch:0.5mm
  • Current rating: 0.5A
  • Voltage rating: 50V
  • High contact reliability
  • High speed up to 5+ Gbps

Ideal applications are portable medical devices, car audio systems,
