Hitachi launches robust 4.7-inch ¼ VGA LCD display module

Hitachi Display Products Group has launched two new 4.7-inch ¼ VGA LCD display modules, the SP12Q01L6ALZZ and ST12Q01L6ALZZ. The new modules, designed to be more robust and better suited to hostile operating environments, complement Hitachi’s existing LMG7520 and LMG7525 monochrome display modules and offer full electrical and mechanical backward compatibility.

The new display modules offer an improved operating temperature range of –20°C to +70°C, and enhanced optical performance in a robust, compact and lightweight module. The new modules are available in transmissive or transflective modes, and deliver a light output of 120 cd/m2 (transmissive mode).

Ideal for a range of applications from white goods appliances to industrial process control, test and measurement and epos terminals, the SP/ST12Q01L6ALZZ modules offer design engineers an enhanced black and white Film STN display manufactured using straight TCP (tape carrier package). For backlighting, high brightness, low power white LEDs have been introduced to help increase robustness and reduce power consumption of the display modules.

“The introduction of LCD displays into so many appliances and products that we use everyday has helped to drive improvements in the reliability and robustness display modules. The replacement of cold cathode fluorescent tubes with white LED backlights helps to make the SP/ST12Q01L6ALZZ modules more robust than previous models. The wider temperature range, white LED backlight and improved construction of these modules gives customers greater freedom at the design stage of a product,” comments Mark Dalton, Product Marketing Engineer for Hitachi Display Products Group.

The introduction of white LEDs removes the need for a high voltage inverter, enabling a reduction in EMI and improved safety. The SP/ST12Q01L6ALZZ models are both fully backward compatible with Hitachi ’s LMG7520RPFC and LMG7525RPFF display modules. The same mounting holes and mechanical outline dimensions have been maintained to provide customers with an easy upgrade path.
