Hitachi integrates touchpanel into new high performance wide VGA LCD module
A wide viewing angle and a 16:9 aspect ratio make the new display module ideal for applications such as ‘in-cab’ navigation and entertainment systems, point of sale terminals and consumer electronics devices. A U-shaped cold cathode fluorescent tube provides excellent brightness, delivering up to 280 cd/m2 brightness with a 200:1 contrast ratio, making it ideal for operation in high ambient light conditions. “The introduction of a touchpanel in the new TX18D16VM1CBA gives product designers a lot more freedom in how they develop their user interface. It means that keyboards and keypads can be discarded as a control mechanism and more intuitive icon driven graphical user interfaces can be developed. This is particularly important where usability is a critical factor in new product adoption, for example personal music players and in-car entertainment systems,” comments Mark Dalton, Product Marketing Engineer for Hitachi Display Products Group. The TX18D16VM1CBA is an active matrix TFT module that operates in transmissive display mode, producing up to 262,000 colours. Its screen measures 152mm x 91mm and it weighs just 170g. The module can operate at temperatures between -20°C and +70°C and is fully compliant with the European Directive on the Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
