Wide range of Rohm LED’s available from Anglia

Anglia’s latest product guide now includes a wide selection of surface mount and through hole LED’s from high quality Japanese manufacturer Rohm. The products are detailed in an easy to use format to aid engineers and buyers alike in the selection process. |
The ranges shown detail Rohm’s standard and high bright LED products including their latest Blue and Green devices based on InGaN technology.
Surface mount models
The surface mount LED’s are offered in 0603, 0805 and 3mm x 2mm chip sizes with the latter model incorporating a built-in reflector giving increased light output. In addition to these sizes a further two SMD models are also available, side view and reverse mount. These two types are particularly suitable for use in backlighting applications or additionally, in the case of the reverse mount type, where a height restriction is critical.
Offered in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Pure Green and Blue colours the SMD types provide typical luminous intensity outputs of between 3.6mcd and 360mcd @ 20mA depending on colour and size selected. Furthermore, the range is offered throughout with a low current option of 2mA, 5mA or 10mA, for use in applications that need maximum efficiency, such as portable or battery powered equipment requiring a high light output. The low current models can provide a luminous intensity up to 63mcd, again depending on size selected.
One additional benefit of using SMD LED’s is the increased viewing angles compared to through hole models. The Rohm SMD LED’s offer viewing angles of between 110° and 170° depending on model.
Rounding up the surface mount range are two sizes of bi-colour LED’s, 1.3 mm x 1.5mm and 3mm x 2.5mm. The latter type utilises a built-in reflector for increased light output and offers a choice of colour combinations that can be used to make further colours depending on driving method.
All surface mount types are supplied in tape and reel packaging for use with high speed automated placement machines.
Through hole models
Rohm’s through hole LED’s are available in industry standard 3mm and 5mm sizes, with luminous intensities from 100mcd to 15,000mcd @ 20mA. The range is available in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue colours with viewing angles from 10° to 54° and the option of a diffused, coloured clear or water clear lens. The options provided on this range make these LED’s a suitable solution for the vast majority of applications whether it is a simple indicator or a sophisticated backlighting requirement.
One additional feature of Rohm’s 3mm & 5mm LED’s is a specially designed base to prevent “Blow Hole” problems. This is a phenomenon that occurs when air is trapped under the body of the LED. The air can expand during the soldering process forcing the air to escape through the solder causing a weakened joint and in some extreme cases an intermittent connection. The special base design of Rohm’s through hole LED’s helps prevent this problem making these LED’s production friendly by reducing the need for extra test and rework. Furthermore, field failure rates can be dramatically reduced.
