High brightness yellow and orange dot matrix LED modules simplify development of large-scale indoor and outdoor displays
Combining high brightness yellow (LUM-512HY351) or high brightness orange (LUM-512HD351) output with low current operation, Rohm’s new LUM-512Hx351 single-colour 16 x 32 high-performance dot matrix displays feature 512 chip LEDs and all of the necessary driving and control circuitry for operation. Combining multiple LUM-512Hx351 units together in either horizontal or vertical directions allows designers to quickly and easily create large-scale display applications such as passenger information systems and information boards. The LUM-512Hx351 displays use AlGaInP surface mount yellow and orange chipLEDs that operate with typical wavelengths of 590nm and 612nm respectively. Maximum LED current consumption is just 2A in both cases. A dot pitch of 6mm results in display screen dimensions of 96 x 192mm, and typical brightness ratings are 2000cd/m2 for the yellow display and 3000cd/m2 in the case of the orange unit. Both modules weigh just 100g. Based around a proprietary ASIC developed by Rohm, the display controller circuitry offers display data memory for two screens and operates with a 1/16 duty cycle. Maximum control circuit current consumption is rated at just 30mA. A built-in, potentiometer-based luminance adjustment circuit allows designers to closely match the luminance of multiple display units. Designed to operate at temperatures of between –10 and 45ºC, the Rohm LUM-512Hx351 displays requires a typical LED and control circuit power supply voltage of 5V.
