Titan Opto develop more low current, energy saving LEDs

Titan Opto have expanded their range of low current LEDs to include higher bright 3mm & 5mm discrete LEDs and a range of surface mount, chip with reflector PLCC-2 sizes. The new products are available in red, yellow and green with a coloured-clear lens.

A typical luminous intensity of up to 9.0mcd at 2mA is available for the 5mm red.

Low current LEDs are excellent for portable applications that rely on battery power. These LEDs offer high brightness for status indication circuits whilst consuming minimum power which results in conservation of battery life. The surface mount option is particularly useful where there is the additional requirement to reduce size and weight on the PC board.

Another major area where these low current LEDs are especially applicable, is as a replacement for standard LEDs in areas where there is a need and requirement to reduce power consumption. In a world where there is an ever increasing pressure to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, these environmentally friendly LEDs play their part by only consuming 1/10 of the current of a normal LED. This can generate for example, a potential saving of 450mA when replacing 25 standard indication LEDs running at 20mA with low current ones.
