Hirose unveils 1mm contact mating pitch, small interface connector for high speed transmission

Hirose have introduced the DH Series to provide solutions for applications needing impedance controlled connectors in a smaller profile. Although compact, the connector is robust and can achieve up to 2.5 Gbps of high-speed transmission dependent on the cable type.

The range consists of IDC or solder type cable mount type plugs and surface mount receptacles in 17, 27, 37 and 51 contact sizes.

The structure of the connector features a durable D shaped opening on the mating face of the plug and receptacle to resist against wrenching forces. There is a choice of robust screw locks or user friendly one touch locks available in metal or plastic to offer total design flexibility and secure locking.

The plug has innovative contacts, which are staggered on the first and second row creating a unique contact arrangement for IDC termination ensuring that each cable is clear of the other contacts. The termination of the cable onto the IDC contact is a simple process with a dedicated tool available to allow all cables to be inserted and terminated in both rows at once. Twinax or twisted pair type cable can be used in AWG 28 size. The internal metal shielded structure is easy to assemble and has excellent shielding properties for EMI prevention.

The surface mount receptacles are available in straight or right angle versions with a 0.5mm fine mounting pitch to save space. Through hole solder posts from the outer shell maximise the retention and stability of the receptacle to the PCB board.

Suitable applications are industrial controllers and medical devices.
