Bourns releases new Gas Discharge Tube to provide coordinated overvoltage protection

Bourns has announced the release of the 2031-T Series fast response Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) designed for use with the Bourns® TBU® (Transient Blocking Unit) high-speed protector.

The newly released part numbers and specifications are:

These devices provide coordinated overvoltage protection for the specified TBU® protector models shown in the above table.

Together, these GDTs and TBU® protectors provide extremely fast overcurrent protection (OCP) and overvoltage (OVP) protection against electrical transients. The TBU® protector will transition to a current-blocking condition in less than one microsecond at the rated current. If needed, the GDT will transition into conduction at a voltage below its maximum impulse rating, protecting the TBU® device from overvoltage and shunting the surge energy to ground.

These solutions provide unparalleled speed of protection compared to other standard OVP/OCP protection schemes.
