PVC-free temperature sensor from EPCOS

With its M3000 series, EPCOS has developed a temperature sensor with a PVC-free cable that contains no halogens, environmentally harmful plasticizers or stabilizers with heavy metals. This means that no corrosive or toxic gases are released in the event of a fire, and little smoke is produced.

In addition, no dioxins hazardous to health are formed at the end of its life cycle when the product is disposed of. The M3000 series already meets future specifications for restricting environmental hazardous substances in household appliances.

The new temperature sensors follow the success of their predecessor series M2000 that has for many years been the leader in reliability tests on the market for refrigerators and freezers. In the temperature cycling test, for example, the M3000 series also withstands a total of 50,000 cycles from -20 to +30 °C in water as well as 1000 cycles from -40 to +80 °C in air. EPCOS has also improved the performance features of its temperature sensors with cables. They now offer moisture resistance at temperatures of up to 80 °C. Their resistance drift is significantly below two percent after immersion in water at 80 °C for 2000 hours and storage at 85 °C and 85 percent relative air humidity.

In addition to refrigerators and freezers, the M3000 series is also suited to other applications such as floor heating systems.
