Wireless world wooed by wirewound RF chip coils from Murata
RF chip coils are an essential element of most electronic products incorporating RF circuitry, as they are specifically designed for emi suppression of high frequency circuits. Low cost and small size are of paramount importance, and increasingly, the trend is for components with higher accuracy (inductance), high Q, higher current and lower DC resistance. Murata has the widest line-up of RF chip coils in the business, with designs including monolithic, wirewound and film types, suitable for practically any application. Devices are fully compliant with RoHS legislation and available immediately in full production volumes. For applications where Q frequency is important, such as most high frequency circuits used in digital tv tuners, wireless lans and Bluetooth enabled systems, Murata’s wire wound design and construction with a miniature aluminium core, is ideal for high frequency applications. High self-resonant frequency and stable inductance at high frequency, with low DC resistance, makes this design particularly suitable for low loss, high output and low power consumption. Murata’s LQW15A and LQW18A RF chip coils are the devices of choice for high Q applications. With a wide inductance range, the LQW18A, contained in a compact 0603 package, has a typical Q frequency of 90 @ 1GHz (33nH). Rated current is 75 to 850mA and self resonant frequency is 3.2GHz typical. An even higher Q (100) version is also available. If smaller size is more critical, the LQW15A, in a 0402 footprint, features a Q frequency of 70 at 1GHz (5.8nH), rated current from 110mA to 1A and self resonant frequency of 8GHz minimum. Again, Murata offers a higher Q rated version (80). For highly price sensitive and miniaturised alternatives, Murata’s LQW04A series fit in half the volume and 60% of the mounting area. Measuring just 0.8mm x 0.4mm with a low 0.4mm profile, which combined with a resin-coated surface, makes them particularly suitable for high-density mounting. A Q frequency of 50 typical at 1GHz (5.6nH) is still highly respectable, making for a viable trade-off in specific applications. The RF chip coils are manufactured in Japan using Murata’s advanced manufacturing techniques and parts are readily available on standard 4 weeks lead times. The LQW15A and LQW18A coils can be supplied on reels of 10,000 and 4,000 parts respectively.
