ST co-processor works with image sensors

ST has introduced a fully integrated co-processor for use with CMOS image sensors in digital still cameras.

Known as the STV0680, the co-processor interfaces to ST's CIF or VGA resolution sensors. The device supports 16 or 64Mb of external memory, which can support up to 24 VGA images, 80 CIF images or 300 QCIF images. A key benefit is low power consumption, typically 70mA operating from four 1.5V batteries and 350mA when the camera is in sleep mode while retaining pictures in memory.

In addition, the STV0680 features a USB interface that enables high-speed upload of pictures.
