Hitachi Display Products Group announced the introduction of two new high performance colour TFT LCD modules. In the 7-inch WVGA range, it is launching the TX18D16VM1CAB and in the 5.7-inch category, it has launched the TX14D12VM1CBB 5.7-inch QVGA display.

Both modules are sunlight-readable TFT displays extending Hitachi's range of high performance LCD modules that are optimised for daylight and high ambient light applications. The new display modules offer customers greater choice in the ultra bright industrial class of LCD displays.

"These new TFT displays represent the very best in Hitachi engineering, delivering ultra bright TFT display modules that use best-in-class light management technologies. Because of our expertise in LCD design and manufacturing, we are able to produce TFT display modules that offer very high light output levels, but without the need for increasing power input. This highly efficient use of backlight energy gives product designers using our display modules a greater degree of flexibility – both in terms of application environments and power consumption efficiency." comments Gareth Thomas, Group Executive - European Operations for Hitachi Display Products Group.

The 7-inch TX18D16VM1CAB WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) and the 5.7-inch TX14D12VM1CBB QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) displays both deliver an impressive 600 cd/m 2 light output – a light level that places them at the very top end of the market in terms of brightness. This light output is achieved with no increase in power consumption over previous models. Both models are active matrix transmissive TFT panels that offer robust industrial quality and performance with 262,000 colours. Touchscreen versions are also available and both models offer a wide operating temperature range of -20 °C to 70 °C.

The TX18D16VM1CAB delivers a contrast ratio of 200:1. Its dimensions are (W)165mm X (H)106mm X (D)10.5mm offering a compact form factor that is mechanically and electrically compatible with previous Hitachi models in the same family. The TX14D12VM1CBB has a contrast ratio of 350:1 and dimensions of (W)131mm X (H)102.2mm X (D)10.9mm. It too, is mechanically and electrically compatible with previous Hitachi 5.7-inch TFT modules.
